Minutes of Chat - January 10, 1999

Those in attendance: Adrian, Donna, Kris, Mary, Sheelba, Peter and Werrf.

1. Subject: Secretary/record keeper.
Decision: It was agreed that the term would be 12 episodes or 6 months and Werrf was nominated and unanimously voted as our first record keeper.

2. Subject: Story proposals
Decision: All story proposals are to be submitted to Sheelba who will post them to our web page. Current story proposals were to reach him by Wednesday and voting would commence via eGroup messaging on Thursday. It was decided that the old voting service was unreliable.

3. Subject: Fate of the Wildcards.
Decision: The Wildcards will all be demoted, disgraced and put on probabtion with redemption coming later in the season. Kaiser is the new CO of the squad.

4. Subject: Beta reader.
Decision: There will be one Beta for 2 authors writing simultaneously to insure continuity of story lines. The authors are given three weeks to write, the Beta has one week to read. The method of reporting to the Beta, either by weekly updates, scene by scene updates or presenting the story in its entirety, is to be worked out between Beta and writer. Mary will match up working styles before assigning Betas to writers.

5. Subject: Fate of our first story.
Decision: It was decided that due to a faulty writing method, the first story was not publishable and will be shelved, ideas from it may be used for future episodes.

6. Subject: New members.
Decision: New members are allowed to join the group, however, they are expected to attend and participate in our meetings to get a full understanding of this group and our methods before they will issued any writing or Beta assignments.

<Seeker> Wb

<Werrf> Gotcha!

<Mary> Better, Werrf?

<Werrf> Yep, working

<zahm> Hi Werrf

<Mary> OK. I agree with Kris's proposal. We stay in office for 24 eps or six

months, whichever comes first.

<Mary> Any comments?

<Werrf> Possibly 24 eps would be too long..

<Werrf> If a season is all the eps produced in a year...maybe 12 eps or 6

months?

<Sheelba> I think 24 eps are probably too long also... I would feel

comfortable seeing 12

<SweetSAABer> a good number of them done by now but we've barely finished one

in 6 months.....12 episodes could take us a life time....we'd probably better

stick to the six months but leave it flexible depending on where we are

episode wise.

<SweetSAABer>

<Seeker> Dose anyone think we can actually get 24 eps done in six months?

<Mary> Sheelba, that's great.

<Seeker> Thats a helluva lot of writing.

<Mary> You sure you can live with 12 eps?

<SweetSAABer> No Adrian....I don't. Life has a way of interrupting all of

us.....things happen we can't forsee so 24 eps in 6 months isn't reasonable.

**** [email protected] enters the chat ****

<Mary> Gideon is here!

<Werrf> Adrian...no. I don't think there's any chance whatsoever of doing 24

in 6. I'd say half a season apiece.

<Sheelba> Well, when you see the proposed new method of writing it will

actually seem possible.

<Werrf> Gideon! Welcome aboard!

User Mary has left the chat

<[email protected]> hELLO ALL

<Werrf> ::Comes to attention and Salutes::

<Seeker> My point exactly

<Sheelba> Ok... someone needs to invite Mary back.

<Werrf> Invited.

<Seeker> She

<Seeker> She offline?

<Werrf> No

**** Mary enters the chat ****

<Werrf> Wb, ma'am.

<Seeker> There we go

<Mary> Thanks! Sorry about that!

<zahm> I concur it is alot of writing. However, if someone writes an episode

by themselves things should happen quickly.

<Werrf> Do we need to vote on term or service, or just assume we're adopting

Kris's proposal?

<Mary> Now where were we?

User SweetSAABer has left the chat

<Mary> If we go with Kris' proposal, they should be the same.

<zahm> The 12-24 episode thing

<Mary> Do I need to find Donna?

<Werrf> Done.

<Seeker> I think 12 episodes sounds reasonable.

**** SweetSAABer enters the chat ****

<Werrf> I've reinvited her.

<Mary> Thanks!

<Werrf> Tell you what, let's just assume that if someone leaves I'll reinvite?

<Seeker> WB

<Mary> I second the 12 eps.

<Mary> Hi, Donna!

<Seeker> All in favour?

<Mary> Yes.

<zahm> I feel 12 is a comfortable number.

<[email protected]> Aye

<Werrf> Yes to 12 eps.

<Sheelba> Agreed

<Seeker> The ayes have it

<Werrf> By a landslide.

<Mary> Great. 12 eps it is!

<Sheelba> 12 eps "and" six months... (just confirming)

<Mary> Now, let's vote on Kris' proposal for service.

<SweetSAABer> Oh, my heavens.....I've been going nuts.....nothing was working

at my end

<SweetSAABer> But I'm fine now....

<Mary> I want clarification on that, too.

<Werrf> Good to hear, ma'am.

<Mary> You ok, Donna?

<SweetSAABer> Yep...am now

<[email protected]> May I have clarification on Kris' proposal?

<Werrf> What is Kris' proposal so that we can vote on it?

<Mary> Sheelba, I'm interpreting this to mean that 12 eps, and length of

service to be 12 eps or 6 moths.

<Mary> Sheelba?

<Sheelba> Yep... that's what I thought.

<zahm> That was my thinking.

<Seeker> I'm in agreement

<Werrf> Me too.

<Mary> Peter, we want length of service of the officers to be 12 written eps

or 6 months.

<Sheelba> So term of service will be 12eps or six months (whichever comes

first)

<Mary> Correct, Sheelba.

<Sheelba> :)

<Mary> Any comments, Peter. Do you understand?

<[email protected]> Yes, Thank you and It sounds fine to me

<Mary> Adrian, any comments?

<Seeker> I think it's settled

<Mary> Good.

<Werrf> Right...what's the first item on the agenda

<Werrf> ?

<Mary> 2nd proposal. We need a secretary/record keeper.

<SweetSAABer> nominations for secretary

<Mary> Werrf, he's already doing the agenda.

<[email protected]> I second Werff

<Werrf> Err...'ang on!

<Seeker> I concur

<Werrf> Do I get a say in this??

<Mary> Carried. Werrf you are secretary.

<Seeker> I don't know, whould he?

<zahm> Nope, I concur :)

<Seeker> I guess not...

<SweetSAABer> Werrf.....you can refuse if there's a conflict for you

<Werrf> Nothing so convenient, I'm afraid

<Mary> Werrf, do you want to accept? We can nominate someone else.

<Werrf> Okay...I accept the position

<Mary> Thank you.

<SweetSAABer> Then it looks like we've found our victim......errr...secretary

<Mary> We have at that! :))

<Seeker> lol. Whats next?

<Werrf> ::Looks worried and wonders what he's got himself into::

<Mary> Next on the agenda, is story ideas.

<SweetSAABer> I know Adrian has one

<Mary> I have only received one outline/suggestion from Adrian so far.

<Seeker> And that still dosn't have all the bugs worked out of it yet...

<zahm> I've got one, too!

<Werrf> I have a suggestion that I've done a bit of work on...it's not fully

formed yet...

<Mary> Now, I have 2.

<Sheelba> You should have one in your mailbox from me as well.

<Mary> Slow down!!!!

<Werrf> Looks like Mary has all the suggestions...trot them out, ma'am!

<Mary> Adrian has one, Werrf has one, Sheelba has one, who else?

<SweetSAABer> Humm.....should they be posted on the web site for all to read,

consider then a vote taken via our service?

<Mary> Sheelba, did you send me the ones that were originally posted?

<Sheelba> Hey, lets do this... why don't you have the suggestions sent to me

so that I can post them on the web sight... don't forget that we have some ep

suggestions left on the web sight from the first proposal time.

<zahm> Me, but I haven't given you an outline yet.

<[email protected]> I have an idea in the rough, dealing with events

on earth in the aftermath of the revalation that the chigs may have come from

earth

<Mary> I agree.

<Seeker> Lets get going then..

<Mary> Everyone needs to either send them to me first or to Sheelba to be

posted.

<Werrf> Sounds good...Sheelba's the archivist...I don't think this is realy

the right place for posting ep outlines...

<SweetSAABer> Understood

<[email protected]> Aye Aye

<zahm> Sounds good!

<Mary> Agreed.

<Mary> But I want to see suggestions for everyone!

<Werrf> ::Salutes:: Ma'am, yes, ma'am

<Seeker> Yes, but I think we need to come to a descision.

<SweetSAABer> I've already got one there from before....about McQueen

<zahm> Yes, Ma'am!

<Mary> Any other comments on story ideas?

<Sheelba> They are on the web sight at...

http://www.fortunecity.com/tattooine/sputnik/199/... I can have them posted to

the web page in probably five minutes (per ep proposal)

<SweetSAABer> Should we set a date for the vote?

<Mary> That need to be brought forward?

<Seeker> Do we realy want to take the time to read them now?

<SweetSAABer> Say by Wednesday....or next weekend

<Werrf> How about voting in the next meeting?

<Mary> Wednesday. We then discuss which ones have been choosen.

<SweetSAABer> Is Wednesday agreeable for everyone?

<Werrf> What time Wed?

<Mary> Agreed.

<Seeker> Yes what time?

<zahm> Okay with me!

<[email protected]> To Vote or to Meet?

<Mary> Let's say by 12 midnight your time.

<SweetSAABer> Just to vote.....

<Sheelba> Works ok for me... I think we should vote using the round2 list

tool.

<zahm> I thought to vote...

<Werrf> The round2 list tool...?

<SweetSAABer> Remember how we use to vote on things?

<Seeker> By my time? I can't do twelve

<SweetSAABer> That's what you're talking about....right Sheelba?

<Mary> Is that still up, Sheelba? It didn't work so well the last few times.

<Werrf> Do you mean the mailing list thing that always buggered up the results

that it sent to the list?

<Sheelba> Through makelist.com... that is correct Mary.

<Mary> I would suggest we vote on the Round 2 list. That way we will know who

and what was voted for.

<[email protected]> Yeah it was a really good idea, but it just never

seemed to work for everyone

<Sheelba> I will edit the results so that they are not screwed up next time...

or just post them to the web.

<Seeker> I say, we drop Mary a line VIA ICQ whenever is convinient prior to

wed

<Werrf> I've got to be frank, I don't trust that thing.

<Werrf> How about just e-mailing out votes into the list?

<Mary> Sheelba, I agree with them. It just didn't work.

<Werrf> With 'Story Vote' inthe subject line?

<Sheelba> That would be a bit cumbersom but we could e-mail them to the list.

<[email protected]> I think using the list would be fine

<Mary> That's what I mean. Email Round 2 with what we vote on.

<Mary> Any comments?

<Seeker> I can do that.

<zahm> I vote for e-mail.

<Werrf> Don't take this the wrong way, Skipper, but it was a bit cumbersome

having to try and translate the results.

<Werrf> E-mail for me.

<Mary> Then we vote on the story lines we like via email to Round 2 by

Wednesday, midnight your time.

<SweetSAABer> Agreed

<Seeker> Is anyone opposed?

<Mary> That way everyone can see the results and know where we stand.

<Mary> It's passed.

User Sheelba has left the chat

<SweetSAABer> Is there any objections to our vote being public? Do any of you

prefer a private vote?

<Mary> Wednesday, 12 midnight.

<SweetSAABer> By public, I mean within the group

<[email protected]> No Objection

<Seeker> I have no preference

<Mary> Correct, Donna.

<Werrf> Public's fine by me

<zahm> Publics fine.

<SweetSAABer> Okay, just thought I'd ask in case someone was uncomfortable

with it

<Seeker> Were has almighty leader gone?

<Mary> Does everyone understand?

<Seeker> Yes

<Mary> Sheelba?

<SweetSAABer> Werrf....are you asking him back?

<Mary> Sheelba, you still here?

<Werrf> Yes

<Werrf> It's giving me grief though.

<Werrf> NO, Mary, he isn't.

<Mary> I'll do it.

<SweetSAABer> Why?

<Werrf> I'm already on it, Mary

<SweetSAABer> I heard that......

<Seeker> What was next on the list?

<SweetSAABer> Punishment for the wildcards

<Mary> Next, is the fate of the Wildcards.

User Mary has left the chat

<SweetSAABer> What repercusions should befall them because of their actions on

the planet

<Seeker> In such a scenario, the worst they'd get is a formal hearing

<Seeker> Possibly a stiff reprimand but thats as far as it gose

<SweetSAABer> Do you think that Vansen would be busted down to Lt.?

<[email protected]> I like the Idea of the WC's getting stuck with

some oddballs and being given dangerous missions as an unofficial punishment

<zahm> I think the wildcards should be given the drudge assignments until they

prove themselves.

**** Sheelba enters the chat ****

<Seeker> That dosn

<SweetSAABer> I do too....I suspect that no too much 'formal' will happen to

them but that they would be considered the butt-wipe of the fleet for al

while.

<Seeker> I don

**** Mary enters the chat ****

<Seeker> I don't think so

<[email protected]> ? Seeker

<Seeker> Theyre far too needed

<Werrf> Remember, chaps, they were grounded pending 'Further Disiplinary

Action'. That sounds bad to me.

<Mary> My pc does not like me this evening!

<SweetSAABer> Okay.....will Vansen get busted to Lt?

<Seeker> Sorry bad typing

<Seeker> No

<Werrf> She'd certainly get a lot of flak...she was the CO of the mission

after all...

<Seeker> She shouldn't..

<Werrf> Why not, Adrian?

<SweetSAABer> I think she would and one of the new members would take

over.....we can always kill one of the new ones off later and bring Vansen

back at Capt.

<Mary> They all would get flak!

<Seeker> She's responsible, but they didn't tell the chigs anything they

didn't already know

<[email protected]> I like that idea SweetSAAB

<zahm> INo Vansen will not be busted, because she was shot down rescueing the

POWs .

<SweetSAABer> That doesn't matter....revealing military info is a serious

offense whether the enemy already knew about it or not

<Mary> We all have differing opinions.

<Mary> SUGGESTION!

<Werrf> Shoot.

<Seeker> And in this case the wildcards are far too valuable to be sitting on

the sidelines

<Mary> We send our suggestions to either the list or to me.

<Sheelba> I think that Ross... while the fleet is under attack and under a lot

of pressure ... will hold off from grounding them. There are documented

stories during WWII when disciplinary action was held off until a more

oppertune time (when they had more manpower).

<Mary> The best one will be written about.

<Seeker> Like I said. Theyre too valuable to sit around with drudge jobs

<Mary> This is where the military historians on the list will shine.

<SweetSAABer> I don't think that they would be grounded necessarily......just

bust Vansen down....put Kaiser in as Capt and give them tough assignments

until they proof themselves.

<Mary> Adrian, they wouldn't be given drudge jobs.

<Werrf> They'd all be punished.

<Mary> They would be given the most dangerous jobs or be punished.

<SweetSAABer> I agree with Adrian....the manpower is needed....they don't get

to stay home on this one........they've got to get out there and do their jobs

<Seeker> Not right away though...

<Werrf> They wouldn't use the 'obeying orders' excuse because that would dump

it all on Vansen.

<[email protected]> Right as I recall there was a shortage of

soliders to begin with. So the WC's get another CO and a whole lot of flak

until they can redem themselves

<Werrf> We can't let them get away scot free.

<zahm> Sounds good to me.

<Werrf> They all have to get an official punishment.

<Sheelba> I like the idea of future redemption as well... It would go over

well with our readers as well.

<Mary> I agree with Werrf, they have to be punished.

<SweetSAABer> There must be other 'hot' squads in the fleet....the WC's can be

the only ones.....maybe they get assignments like cover the flank for a while

liek they did in the opening episode

<Mary> If they aren't military discipline will falter.

<Seeker> Um... Just a thought, but as I recall the WCs are the most valuable

sqn in the fleet. It would be stupid to have them sitting around in the

middle of wartime

<SweetSAABer> Punished how Werrf?

<Werrf> I don't know. All I'msaying is that they would be punished.

<[email protected]> Loss of rank for the CO

<Sheelba> They will not get away Scott free... but punished at a later date

when they have the luxury of manpower.

<SweetSAABer> I agree Lt. Gideon

<Seeker> But I agree with Mary and Werff they do need to be dsciplined

<zahm> Alright if they must be punished, what would be appropriate?

<Mary> Loss of rank, Kris.

<Seeker> The timing would not be instantaneous..

<Mary> And loss of prestige.

<Seeker> And you can't demote them..

<Werrf> IMHO, in reality, Vansen would be busted back to 1st Lt, the others

back to 2nd Lt, and all plaed on probation.

<Werrf> Absolute minimum.

<Seeker> There all luetennants

<Werrf> There are two grades of Lt.

<Mary> Again, I agree with Werrf.

<SweetSAABer> I agree with Werrf.

<SweetSAABer> Vansen has to be busted down.

<[email protected]> I am with Werff on this as well

<Mary> 2nd Lieuy's are the lowest.

<Sheelba> Drudge assignments... I don't think they will be given any critical

missions until they prove themselves. And the military would only allow them

to prove themselves when the military has no choice.

<Seeker> Demotion is never the awnser

<zahm> Okay, they get busted.

<SweetSAABer> I agree with Sheelba on that

<Werrf> Well what do you suggest, adrian?

<Werrf> Sheelba, that's pretty much what I meant by Probation.

<Mary> Adrian, they have to prove themselves again.

<Werrf> They don't get trusted until they've been watched for a long time.

<Seeker> Well.... If I was Ross, they'd be on instant probation pending court

martial at a later time

<Werrf> Small point, Adrian...it's got bugger all to do with Ross.

<Mary> But, Ross, isn't the JC in charge.

<Werrf> It's the military hierarchy. The Joint Chiefs.

<SweetSAABer> Yeah, Ross is the commander of the ship but he's still got

higher ups to answer to.....and they are mad at the 58th

<Sheelba> Works for me... I had a story idea that would work with this anyways

(of course it would be a while until that story comes out, and most of the

58th would need to pay in blood for that kind of redemption.

<[email protected]> So what if we keep the threat of CM at the end of

the Conflict hanging over their heads?

<Seeker> Whoever, but the fact remains... You can't demote somebody without

at least a formal hearing

<Mary> That's what is misleading. It was never clear whether the JC's were

killed or not in the bomb.

<Werrf> Adrian, it doesn't make much sense putting 'Traitors' above loyal

soldiers.

<SweetSAABer> I guess that's open for our interpretation

<Sheelba> One JC was killed, and I think it was the one who was asking for the

WC's heads.

<Mary> Exactly. And leaves us lattitude in the direction we decide to go.

<Werrf> The way I read it, McQ was the only survivor inthe room.

<SweetSAABer> Were 'all' the JC's present?

<Werrf> That's up to us, I guess.

<Werrf> Certainly a lot of the Top Brass.

<Mary> Only, three were with McQ & the Alien, if I remember.

<SweetSAABer> I have no military background so some of those finer points are

tough for me.

<Seeker> Since the JC's are toast... There probably couldn't be any immediate

action against the WCs...

<SweetSAABer> How many JC's are there?

<Mary> There are five JC's

<SweetSAABer> So two are remaining...

<Mary> Yes.

<Seeker> Two JC's have to run a fleet...

<Mary> I'm assuming either on Earth or on a carrier.

<SweetSAABer> I'm sure others will be promoted into the slots.....

<Seeker> Theres no way that theyre going to keep there best SQN on the ground.

<Mary> Again, yes.

<Werrf> So, to recap...have we decided on a punishment for the 'Cards?

<Seeker> Given that they will be under alot of pressure..

<SweetSAABer> We're not talking about grounding the 58th......just giving them

less critical assignments like recon or something like that

<Seeker> Thats unsound...

<Mary> Yes. A demotion, and either dangerous or grunt work until they prove

themselves.

<SweetSAABer> Yes....all are demoted and disgraced......

<Werrf> Right. And...sorry, but I got a bit lost, what are we now discussing?

HOW they get punished?

<SweetSAABer> Are we going with Kaiser as the new squad CO

<Seeker> The new members should be allowed to fly...

<[email protected]> Aye Demoted and Disgraced

<Mary> Adrian, think about what you are saying. They have to be punished.

<Sheelba> I agree with donna... give them crumb jobs for a while then, maybe

3/4 of the way through this season they will redeam themselves.

<Seeker> I disagree...

<Sheelba> Kaiser is hte new squad CO, that was decided long ago

<Seeker> I agree. They must be punished. But a demotion will teach them

nothing.

<Werrf> Okay, Adrian, you don't like our suggestions.

<zahm> I agree with Sheelba.

<Werrf> So what the hell DO you suggest??

<Mary> Yes, it will Adrian.

<Mary> They will have to make up to their peers once again.

<SweetSAABer> Demotion makes a statement to everyone.....orders must be

followed or there will be repercusions

<SweetSAABer> They must be made an example

<[email protected]> Are the new memners screballs as well? or are

just unlucky to ge stuck with the infamous 58?

<Seeker> Disgrace the squadron.

<Mary> We're laying the groundwork for the next season.

<SweetSAABer> Do you remember the ep with West going down to the

planet....when McQ got soooo angry at West for leaving?

<Werrf> If nothing else, the disgraced soldiers won't have authority over less

disgraced soldiers?

<Werrf> That makes sense, doesn't it?

<Seeker> Deterance dosn't work.

<Mary> Peter, they are unlucky to get stuck with the 58th.

<Werrf> Okay, you want to disgrace the squadron. How?

<Seeker> What you suggest is that you hold a court martial

<Mary> Adrian, let's see how the story flows.

<Sheelba> I think we are at a point where we can vote... as for Adrians

question, the new members are unlucky (and probably angry) with their new

assignments.

<SweetSAABer> Adrian....go back and watch 'Farthest Man From Home".....the

scene with McQ......

<[email protected]> The Disgraced soldiers not having authority over

the undisgraced? that sounds a little complicated to work into a story.

<Mary> OK. Are we in agreement that the 58th should be demoted and punished.

User zahm has left the chat

<SweetSAABer> Of course, some of the new members are in a somewhat disgraced

state too....like Lockwood.

<Seeker> It's not stratigically sound thinking

<[email protected]> Aye, Demoted & Disgraced.

<SweetSAABer> We should have a challenge getting them to the point of

redemption.

<Werrf> Then WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST???????

<Seeker> But it makes perfect literary sense

<Mary> Finally! The whole point, Adrian. This is a story!

<[email protected]> But the redemption should not be until the

beginning of the next season at the very least.

<Mary> NOW. VOTE.

<SweetSAABer> I agree Lt. Gideon.....it should take time

<SweetSAABer> Werrf's here....

<Mary> ARE WE IN AGREEMENT THAT THE 58TH SHOULD BE DEMOTED AND PUNISHED?

<Werrf> I vote for each card to be reduced by one rank, and the ssquadron

placed on probation until they prove themselves.

<[email protected]> Aye

<SweetSAABer> Yes

<Sheelba> yes

<Mary> I, vote yes.

<Mary> Kris?

<SweetSAABer> Kris is zahm

<SweetSAABer> she voted

<SweetSAABer> we're waiting on Adrian

<Sheelba> It looks unanimous... demotion and disgrace

<Werrf> Adrian, what's your vote?

<Mary> I know who Kris is. I don't see her vote.

<Werrf> Nor do I.

<Seeker> I choose not to

<SweetSAABer> right after mine

<[email protected]> I show Zahm leaving a while ago

<Mary> 6 to 1.

<Werrf> Okay, we have six in favour and one abstention.

<Werrf> Adrian, could you clarify...do you want to abstain or vote no?

<SweetSAABer> Whew!

<[email protected]> I need a short recess be back to the keyboard in

5

<Seeker> I abstain, pending further question.

<Mary> I think a quick recess is in order.

<SweetSAABer> Pending what further question Adrian?

<Sheelba> boy, that was a heated discussion... Lets take five minutes to catch

our breath

<SweetSAABer> Yes....I could use a head call

<Werrf> Six in favour, one abstention. The group has decided that the 58th

should be demoted and placed on probation.

<Mary> We are down to #4 on the agenda.

<SweetSAABer> brb

<Seeker> I want to know how the group would like to go about accomplishing the

descision

<Mary> Adrian, I will take that up with you privately

<[email protected]> BRB

<Seeker> A demotion is not a simple procedure.

<Mary> ADRIAN! I WILL TAKE THAT UP WITH YOU PRIVATELY!

<Werrf> Adrian, if you don't like the suggestion, vote against it.

<Werrf> The vote has been carried.

<Werrf> The discussion is over.

<Seeker> I'm not against the suggestion

<Sheelba> I think we should shelve the discussion of what kind of punishment

until a later date.

<Mary> Thank you, Sheelba!

<Mary> We are in recess.

<Mary> Everybody take a deep breath!

<Mary> We've got this far and we're still alive!

<Sheelba> I will see everyone in five minutes...

**** Mary enters the chat ****

**** SweetSAABer enters the chat ****

**** [email protected] enters the chat ****

**** Sheelba enters the chat ****

<Werrf> What'd I miss?

<Sheelba> I agree with donna... I think two episodes per month with one Beta

reader is the best option.....so the others take the month off or spend their

time thinking of story ideas....this way if I know I've got a tough month

ahead I can bow out a bit then be ready to hit it the next month...

**** zahm enters the chat ****

<SweetSAABer> tie that girl down......

<Werrf> That sounds like a damn good move to me

<SweetSAABer> What does everyone else think about the option on the table?

<zahm> Mary, Werrf how do I invite you to chat?

<Werrf> I vote aye.

<Sheelba> ... If we had everyone write every month we would end up with a

serious case of burnout

<SweetSAABer> in no time....that's for sure

<Mary> WB, Werrf & Kris! You can't from outside Kris. You have to be inside to

do it.

<SweetSAABer> This way we can keep this enjoyable......keep the pressure down

a bit

<Werrf> Actually, Mary, that's not entirely accurate...

<Mary> OK. One beta for 2 writers. The others are resting.

<[email protected]> Aye

<SweetSAABer> aye

<Werrf> Aye.

<Mary> Sorry, Werrf. You are the expert. :))

<Werrf> I know.

<Mary> Aye

<Sheelba> agreed

<SweetSAABer> Okay.....next item?

<Mary> I know Kris. Let's finish this, then I'll explain. Or better yet

Werrf will.

<zahm> I am inside the other Chat!

<zahm> I'm in two chats!

<zahm> Werrf?

<[email protected]> Next on the Agenda?

<Mary> Now I would like to see a deadline of two week turn around.

<Werrf> Yes, Kris?

<SweetSAABer> Explain.....

<Mary> Yes, Kris, Werrf. He's the resident computer whiz.

<zahm> Explain?

<Werrf> COMPUTER WHIZZ??????

<Mary> Yep. You are also the secretary.

<SweetSAABer> Deadline of two week turn around.....explain please

<Werrf> Sorry...leave it till after.

<Mary> One week to write, one week to beta.

<[email protected]> Aye

<Werrf> Do you really think that's enough?

<Mary> Sheelba, how long are the eps to be in pages?

<SweetSAABer> Ohhhh....one week to write an entire episode? That's pretty

tough for some of us

<Sheelba> Two weeks is a little tight... I propose a three week turnaround.

<Werrf> If we're thinking of two eps a month, we've got three weeks towrite,

one week to Beta

<Werrf> Beta is a lot faster than writing.

<Mary> OK, 3 weeks.

<SweetSAABer> Three weeks is much better

<[email protected]> 3 weeks to write 1 to Beta?

<Werrf> Write:Beta 3:1.

<Mary> Yes, Peter.

<Mary> Sheelba!!!!

<Sheelba> I have no idea on length, but it should consist of about four

scenes. I am going to post the story in four parts.

<Mary> That's about 15-20 pages.

<Werrf> I don't like posting a limit on stories. A target, yes, but a limit

wouldn't work.

<Sheelba> Possibly less

<Mary> We should be able to do that with no sweat in 3 weeks. That leaves 1

week to beat.

<Mary> beta.

<SweetSAABer> Agreed Werrf

<Sheelba> Target is a better word.

<SweetSAABer> How about regular updates to the Beta reader and the

group.....deadlines help us all from procrastinating to the last minute

<Mary> But we need a cutoff time.

<Mary> Four weeks from start to finish.

<[email protected]> Good Idea Donna

<zahm> Agreed

<Werrf> Agreed.

<SweetSAABer> Should the writers post their story with the Beta reader weekly

so he/she doesn't get buried at the end by two full stories?

<Mary> If it's early, fine. If it's late, why.

<[email protected]> this would also stop any conflicts earlier int he

process

<Sheelba> I think the writer should post the outline to the beta first, and

then after writing each scene send the rough draft the the beta.

<Mary> I would say yes, Donna. That way the beta has a chance to stop any

problems early.

<Werrf> I'd say it's up to the individual writer/betas to decide between them.

<SweetSAABer> Yes....we could head off problems early enough to not have to

rewrite entire stories at the last minute

<[email protected]> Exactamundo

<Werrf> Some people like to beta a whole story at once, so they can follow it

through, some people like to do it bit by bit

<Mary> OK. Four wks from start to finish. 2 authors per beta. Any comments.

<Sheelba> Works for me.

<[email protected]> You could beta it on both levels.

<Werrf> Which levels, Peter?

<SweetSAABer> Beta it on both levels? Define levels

<[email protected]> The scene to scene or weekly were you look for

possible conflicts, spelling and other technical stuff

<SweetSAABer> And I think Sheelba has a good idea with the step by step

presentation to the Beta reader.

<SweetSAABer> Oh, okay Peter....along the line of Sheelba's suggestion......

<Mary> Any other comments?

<[email protected]> and then on the Complere story, its overall

...effect

<Werrf> Can I suggest that we don't tell anyone HOW to beta.

<Werrf> that should be up to the individual reader. Different people work

best in different ways

<zahm> Werrf has a point.

<Mary> An excellent point!

<Werrf> ::Shrugs:: A point.

<SweetSAABer> Then we had better match their working methods up.....

<Mary> We leave it to the individuals.

<SweetSAABer> Or we're going to have a war between Beta and writer

<Mary> I'm in the process of doing that Donna

<Werrf> Let the writers and betas sort it out between them. If there are

irreconcilable differences, the team wouldn't work anyway, so we should switch

them round.

<Mary> I'll get with Sheelba and give him my suggestions.

<[email protected]> Ok, where are we on the agenda? My time is

running out....

<SweetSAABer> mine too....got homework

<SweetSAABer> #5?

<Werrf> Okay, one beta to two writers, 3:1 week ratio, betas and writers sort

out problems between them. Yes?#

<[email protected]> Aye

<Mary> We're on # 6

<SweetSAABer> aye

<Sheelba> yep

<Mary> aye

<Werrf> Right, motion's carried. Next on the agenda.

<zahm> Story progress?

<Mary> # 6 is basically get me informed of what is going on.
