Family Background/Lineage:
Born and raised in Kanapolis, which is located right in the heart of
Kansas, Bobby comes from a long line of farmers.  His parents were high
school sweethearts and married right after graduation.  He has one
younger brother and two younger sisters.  Both sets of grandparents are
alive and living in Kanapolis.

Three traits of the character:
1.  Highly competitive, always wants to challenge someone to a "friendly
game of..."  When he loses he slaps his opponent on the back and says,
"I'll get ya next time" but inwardly he is troubled by every loss
because his identity is wrapped up in his victories.
2.  Bobby needs everyone to like him, he works at being what he thinks
they want but he's convinced that if they really knew him they'd realize
what a fraud he is.
3.  He is hungry to experience the world.  Bobby continually pumps his
fellow Marines about places they've been and things they've done.

Self Concept... I am: 
I am suppose to be the hero to save the day but do I have the right
stuff?

at the fair which he keeps around to remind himself what second place

Brief history of the character: 
Bobby has always excelled at everything he does.  Tops in his class at
Salina High scholastically, athletically and socially, Bobby was voted
most likely to succeed, but he has spent his whole life on the farm in
Kanapolis with only occasionally trips to Wichita, about 90 miles away.

Family Background/Lineage:  His family is from Lubbock, Texas.  During the 20th century his family made a great deal of money in oil-wells.  With their money his family was able to invest and expand their income.  Coming from a privileged lifestyle he was brought up to be a culture individual.

Brief history of the character:  Although Sheldon spent nearly six years in college he only graduated with a Associates Degree.  His main failing was that his interests were so diversified he had a difficult time figuring out what he wanted to focus his studying on.  He was going to continue with his education but the war began and he joined to protect the earth.

Sheldon was a member of the 59th squadron when they were defending the 58th and their retrieval of the Tellus and Vesta Colonists.  Of his squadron he is the only survivor.

Family Background/Lineage:  His family are descendents of the Irish Potato famine and they remnants of his family came to the United States in the 1920's.  His family has always been blue collar workers and they take pride in the work of their hands.

Self Concept… I am: The best barber in the fleet... even if I am officially just a mechanic.

Brief history of the character:  Before the war began Otto was barber, but with the need of military support personal and his families pride in working with their hands he joined the navy as a flight mechanic.

Family Background/Lineage:
Hank's father is Caucasian.  Orphaned at age 12, Joseph Lockwood was
raised by his only other relative, an uncle, who taught him how to be a
butcher.  When his uncle died, Joseph took over his butcher shop. Hank's
mother is Mexican whose family never forgave her for marrying outside of
her faith and have disowned her.  Hank has three younger sisters and one
younger brother.  His older brother was killed in a car accident.  Hank
was the first in his family to go beyond high school.

ignores all around him.
2.  Spends a great deal of his time reading or writing in his notebook.
3.  Though he doesn't interact with his teammates, he is almost always
around them, sitting on the sidelines.

Brief history of the character:
Though Hank's family experienced a great deal of stress due to his
mother's disownment by her family, they were basically a very happy,
close family until the death of his older brother, Joe.  Depressed about
having to leave school and driving drunk, Hank caused the accident that
killed Joe and landed him in the Corp.  Hank found he liked the Corp.
With his intelligence and skill he could advance in the ranks but is
held back by his refusal to relate to anyone on an interpersonal level.
Because he is so closed, no one trusts him.  Hank's squad was killed on
Demios while he survived uninjured, a subject of much speculation.  The
truth is Hank was scouting ahead when the squad was attacked and killed
but Hank's guilt over his brother's death causes him to embrace
punishment as penitence.  Hank longs to be a part of something again,
which is why he stays in the Corp, but his guilt keeps him in a
self-imposed isolation.

Years of Schooling: Went to several good schools on academic scholarships. Attained fluency in several languages. Got a scholarship to UCLA and worked to support herself.

Brief history of the character:  Maggie's father had wanted a son. And, as a result, her father made sure she grew up as well versed in fighting (and drinking) as any of her male cousins.  After she graduated from college she didn't want to continue her education and she didn't want to sit behind a desk in an office. So she joined the Marines with her cousin Roberto. He washed out, She didn't. She found it challenging. She was groomed for Military Intelligence  based on her aptitude scores and slowly rose to  Major. Five years ago was demoted to Captain and honorably discharged. The next few years are unclear. Was reinstated due to lack of military personnel.  Maggie is not a pilot and the "higher ups in the chain of command" overrode Commodore Ross in putting Maggie in charge of the 58.

Born in Scotland, the son of a farmer.
Joined the Army at sixteen to get away from poverty

Family Background/Lineage:  Payta's father served in the military during the AI War and became highly decorated during that conflict.  Before his father served, his family has had a long and sad history of drug abuse, alcoholism, and family abuse.

Religion:  He believes in the Navaho gods

1.  Refuses to laugh at risque humor.

Self Concept… I am: a warrior, and will serve my people proud like my father before me.

Brief history of the character:  The indian people of the Americas served the world proudly during the AI wars, and the world was grateful for the sacrifices and strength that the native-showed.  As a result of that they gained a new sense of pride, and the world community decided to give them huge grants of money, with which the Indians were able to bring themselves out of poverty and get themselves into school.

Payta was not interested in going to school but in respect to his fathers wishes he did, and graduated at Washington State University after gaining early enterance (he started going to the school when he was 16).  Just after graduation Payta joined the marines with the intention of gaining as much glory in battle that his father did.

He was a member of the 32nd Squadron before they were killed in combat, now he has been re-assigned to the 58th.

 

Sidney, Dr. Robbins

Family Background/Lineage:  Sid grew up in a small family in New York. 
His mother passed away a few years ago but his father is still living and earning a living as a banker.  He has one sister, Rachel, who is married with three kids.  Sid was widowed four years ago when a drunk driver hit his family head-on when his wife and kids were coming home from the grocery store in the middle of the afternoon.  He was not in the car.

Three traits of the character:
1.  Sidney likes to put his patients at ease with his gentle manner and
warmsmile, he listens, truly listens to people.
2.  He also hangs dearly onto the things of childhood, partly because it
is an reassuring way to reach his patients but also because he so misses his family this is his way of hanging onto their memories.  All the toys in his office belonged to his children.
3.  Sidney is very tall, awkward and odd looking, people tend to feel
normal around him so he uses it to get them to drop their defenses so he can reach them.


Self Concept:  I am an understanding person whose hardships in life have brought great empathy into my work.

to his children (yo-yo, crayons, small firetruck) and a plastic plant that he scolded his wife for buying because he thought it looked "dumb".


Brief History:  Sidney married a little late in life, he was 36.  Sandra
was more than his wife she was his partner in their practice and in every area of his life.  Their children, Jacob and Sarah, were an intense blessing and source of joy for him.  Their loss and the loss of his wife devastated him. When the war began, he joined the military to help but mostly because he needed a change, a chance to move on
in his life.
